They had tobacco sticks which come in the odd sizes we wanted. You won't find those dimensions at a lumber yard, so we visited our local source for reclaimed materials.

The wood also needed to be 3/8" thick to match the thickness of the tile. Rather than fill in with such a small piece of tile we decided to frame each side with a 1-1/2" width of wood it wood. Two tiles would cover all but 3" of the wall width. The dimensions of the tile and existing wall presented a challenge. Traditional Shaker style/flush inset custom white cabinetry with paneled front appliances were designed for a clean aesthetic. In the kitchen, a wall was opened to the dining room for natural light to carry between rooms and to create the appearance of space. The new spaces meld the home’s traditional elements with Traditional Scandinavian design influences. The homeowners wanted to embrace their heritage, and also have a simple and sustainable space for their family to grow. A tiny, nearly unfunctional kitchen and leaking bathroom were ready for updates. This 1907 home in the Ericsson neighborhood of South Minneapolis needed some love.
